Wyrom Gives Brief Details for Rings of Lumnis

Time Lord Wyrom gives us a brief overview of the upcoming Rings of Lumnis Event in April:

Topic: Rings of Lumnis

Subj: Some Brief Details
Just to give some minor details to get the ball rolling.

First and foremost, this is a puzzle event. If you compare it to something like Hunt 4 History or Black Swan Castle, it’s on a smaller scale. However, it doesn’t require the same time investment that those events do, either.

This event will be a change of pace from our most recent event lineup. There will be no shops. There are no random item drops. There are no tickets or scrip. There will not be any items to sell or trade to others. There is no combat.

The reward is a single item that can be gradually improved by subsequent puzzle completions, which will make the item more effective. There will also be field experience earned as you continue to progress through puzzles.

Brush up on your lore and historical knowledge if you’re still interested! Maybe visit an escape room or two!

I think it was pretty obvious he was referring to in-game history. Not player histories, not simutronics history, not GemStone II/III/IV history. As in, the official in-game documentation/history.

Anything goes as long as it’s part of in-game history. Yesterday is history.

I appreciate that we have a bit more info. It’s not something I intend to take a week off work for, like EG or DR, but can still try out if I feel like it.

Will it be in groups, or solo?

Also, I think it’s great that new events are coming out based on real life type things. This must be why escape rooms became popular at Con… you guys were actually doing research.

They don’t really have anything to do with real escape rooms. But if you have been to one, you’ll know there are puzzles to solve that require some outside-of-the-box thinking.

This sounds pretty neat. Am I correct in guessing that we’ll be able to start and stop during the time period for the event, so that we don’t have to do it all in one go? I may actually be able to attend then.

What do you mean by this? You can do as many or as few “runs” as you want, whenever you want while the event is running.

I pretty sure he meant working on the quest in small chunks and resuming where you left off if you don’t do a whole “run” in one sitting.

“Runs” are short enough so that you’ll be able to start and stop frequently, if that’s what you choose to do.

Is this a pay to access event or more like a short-term quest area where we will need to pay for each entry/”run” to it?

I would guess it’s a pay to do it each time requiring many many many times to get whatever
the item is to be good. I could be wrong of course

This is not a limited access event. There are no tickets/scrip to accumulate in order to make a purchase. There are no limited wares in shops.

This is (intended to be) a fun, puzzle-type event that will give incremental bonuses to an item that we have yet to discuss/talk about because we’re not ready to discuss/talk about that item.

If this event sounds like fun and you want to attend, there are no pressures on attendance. If you can go, great. If you want to attend, super. If you don’t, that’s okay too.

I’m not quite sure why there’s a need to know the details about an unlimited event like this other than curiosity, in which case… we’ll have more details for you soon. Otherwise, what details are you looking for specifically?

I agree, how dare she offer to answer your generic gripe with requesting specific information!

She should get le fired and never have a customer service role in life, ever.

Or you could get original and post something that can be quantified to discuss. Based on your posting history, it’s so much easier to say something negative without any backing, so I won’t hold my breath.

Since there is one main announced reward that is upgradable for this event the frustration stems from the desire for some to maximize its benefits. This does not pertain to me personally but since there is an item that gains incremental bonuses after an unknown amount of runs some people may feel the need to request time off, save additional $$$ and/or coordinate with loved ones to get the most out of the event. Without knowing more information about the item, the bonuses or how many runs it might take to make meaningful upgrades it can be difficult for some people to decide how much time or resources to allot for the event.

However, I’m not sure how much of that you can communicate without ruining some of the mystique of the event. Since this event falls right around my wife’s due date I have firm limits on how much time I can dedicate regardless so it doesnt impact me either way. I’m still excited about Rings of Lumnis and look forward to learning more about the event as you are ready to make it available.

To further expand on what GM Haliste said, our lead times per event were dramatically reduced in the recent years as well as the events we produce were tripled. The Events team has a primary project load that consists of working on these events, but there isn’t many of them. In turn though, events are contained to the Events team outside anyone who wishes to pitch in. That means anything we work on here doesn’t impact game development or storyline progression. Right now though, it means we don’t have the hands to discuss things because we typically are working on these things up until a week before the event is released.

We have a lot more leeway with discussing things on the forums this year than in previous years though. Prior to 2018, we had some issues with posting before our mailers. Luckily, we’re moving back into a direction where we’ll try to get announcements out sooner. But Rings of Lumnis is a brand new event, and it’s requiring more attention than, say, Ebon Gate.

Circling back to what GM Haliste said, it would be helpful to know what information you’d like to know more about. This event is going to be a puzzle event in bite-sized pieces. Think of a H4H puzzle squeezed down into something you can solve in a few minutes. It will be similar to how our events run these days. There will be entries in the SimuCoin Store for roughly 100 SimuCoins. There are no shops or scrip earned here. There is nothing for resale. The quest reward attunes to your character. You can get the base reward right from the start and do not need to pickup any SimuCoins. If you want it to be more powerful, that’s when the event side of things kick in.

We are also introducing an area to the game that was only talked about in certain areas back in the 90s. It’s only a tiny portion of that area, but this release will let us expand the area beyond this event. New areas also take a lot of time to get up and running. We’ve gave some of those details already though, so I doubt you want me to bore you there.

Thanks! That was the exact information I was looking for at this time. Now to wait for yall to finalize things and release the details on the item and what upgrades it can get through repeated entries. I’m probably down for at least a couple of those as I enjoy puzzle solving.

<<and five very small areas of Liabo>>

This is an obscure historical tangent. But it made me think just now of the Starsphere artifact. The story behind the Graveyard had Bandur Etrevion getting apprehended trying to steal a “speaking crystal” from the Library of Nomikos (Biblia) on the Isle of Ormian (Ornath), which would have been one of the super-ancient Lord of Essaence relics that talked in presumably Iruaric and most of it did not make sense being too advanced. For a second I was trying to remember if this one was supposed to be in the Library.

The Starsphere was one of those “speaking crystals” except it was a little ways south of this island, in the central part of the northern most province on the adjacent continent of Emer (Finnia). It was basically a holodeck. The chamber it was in would suddenly look like you were on other worlds or out in space looking at stars and planets.
