Wolfloner Reminds Us of Rysus’ Words About Rooks

With the Vigilante’s search for Rysus on Monday night, Wolfloner notes that none of the Rooks betrayed him, knowing full well, they’d pay with their life and reminds us of Rysus’ words not all that long ago about the Rooks:

Noteworthy to mention that none of the Rooks betrayed Rysus though they knew it would cost them their lives. Rysus spoke to the town not all that long ago. It might be useful to remember his words then.

Wolfloner

Toward the end of the meeting, Rysus himself appeared and had a few words to say. Well, more than a few; take a look:

A young girl walks into the assembly hall, half of her face covered in old burn scars, one of her eyes glazed and barren.

The girl smiles, nervously, the skin folding on the left side of her lips where the scars are gnarled, giving her an awkward grin.

The girl says, “…there, is someone else, who wishes to speak….”

Speaking to a young scarred girl, Puptilian says, “All are welcoome to speak here.”

The girl says, “…all?”

The girl says, “…without being punished?”

Puptilian says, “For this night, yes.”

[A wild Rysus appeared!]

Rysus quietly says, “You’re all wasting your time.”

Rysus quietly says, “Your talks of bleeding the Brotherhood, hugging the Brotherhood, feeding the Brotherhood, finding their allies, stomp, stamp, shout, spit…”

Rysus quietly says, “Wasting your time.”

Rysus quietly says, “We are an idea. Once, upon a time, many of you had the same idea.”

Rysus quietly says, “But you’ve grown soft. Your hands were once calloused from battles for freedom. Now your noses are crusted from wiping all of your sniffles away.”

Deckits asks, “And.. why aren’t we locking the door, and finishing this here?”

Rysus quietly says, “Because killing me won’t finish it.”

Aydan mutters, “All I’m hearing is the same words that every despot who ever lived spoke in the years before he was able to assume his throne.”

Rysus quietly asks, “A despot?”

Rysus quietly says, “Ironic, coming from an imperial knight whose empire is riddled with them.”

Speaking to Rysus, Aydan asks, “Did I say they were any different?”

Rysus quietly says, “You can arrest me tonight. Hang me, burn me, flay me, it doesn’t matter.”

Speaking to Rysus, Aydan says, “And you don’t? You’re just the same. You call it an idea, something that others can’t see or would forget. And when you finally achieve what you wish? You’ll be no different. You’ll set up whatever you wish, without thinking of those who got you there. You do it already by calling yourself a King.”

Speaking offhandedly to Rysus, Cruxophim admits, “He does seem more cognizant of that fact than most, and has often been most vocal in speaking against Prelate Chaston… for example.”

Rysus quietly says, “We represent the same heart of this town.”

Drektor comments, “Of all the homeless and orphaned in this town. very few are the result of the Rooks. those homeless n orphaned are gonna be drawn to that life.”

Rysus quietly says, “We fight for independence of this town.”

Aydan says, “You act like you’re the only one in this room with any vision, any hope of something different.”

Rysus quietly says, “Some of you are bound to oaths and spurs and a sense of black and white.”

Speaking to Irar, Mynon exclaims, “No, he does NOT get to speak his piece! This outlaw uses the rules only to his own advantage, and is willing to kill others to hide what he does against the law. As long as you protect him, you suffer his people to cause you and this town suffering!”

Aydan says, “Your ‘something different’ would just be something that another would rise up to resist in the years to come. You’d become the exact thing you fight against now.”

Rysus quietly says, “We, are the agents of shadows, thanklessly doing what MUST be done, when you cannot.”

Speaking to Rysus, Mynon exclaims, “You are a criminal, and that is the only context you have here!”

Puptilian says, “If the rooks really mean to do nothing but protect this town, remove the mask, stop the criminal activities inside and outside the town, do your duty as militia for one year and receive full pardon. IF you REALLY mean to protect this town then do it in the light.”

Puptilian says, “Like this town. We have laws.”

Archales says, “Stopping criminal activities has nothing to do with defense.”

Rysus quietly says, “Militia have rules, chains, burdens.”

Rysus quietly says, “War is not won with rules.”

Rysus quietly says, “War is won by survival.”

Rysus quietly says, “We will ensure this town survives.”

Rysus quietly says, “We will ensure this freedom survives.”

Rysus quietly says, “Join the militia? It is just another arm for the Empire or anyone else to absorb.”

Speaking to Rysus, Aydan says, “The only freedom you bring this town is the freedom to continue to starve and suffer. You brought the Icewall here by your actions. You invite the reprisals from North Hendor. You invite whatever reprisal that the Hall will bring for the plinite. You claim to defend this town, yet YOU are the one responsible for bringing so many of its ills. You’re not the snake in the grass. You’re the one who keeps poking at it and then saying it’s the snake’s fault for biting.”

Rysus quietly asks, “When was the last time the Brotherhood raided the Gryphon Holding?”

Rysus quietly asks, “…now when was the last time knights raided our homes?”

Sareyna says, “Ask the people of shanty town what the rooks have done for them.”

Puptilian says, “And yet we still fly the flag of Wehnimer’s Landing. We still hold elections, write our own laws. We walk free, talk free, and live a free life. For all this talk about the empire taking over they are sure taking their time.”

Puptilian says, “Its just an excuse you have to be the criminals you are.”

Rysus quietly asks, “You walk a free life?”

Puptilian says, “Yes, yes I do.”

Rysus quietly says, “Your eyes are turned to the sky, oblivious to the encroaching imperial shadows all around you.”

Rysus quietly says, “You see freedom because they’re allowing you too…”

Rysus quietly says, “For now.”

Rysus quietly says, “Two years ago, you almost crucified Thadston. Two months ago, you jaunted across worlds to save him.”

Rysus quietly says, “If you need anymore of a history lesson than that, I’m afraid your a lost cause.”

Rysus quietly says, “You may as well offer your precious Mohana next to Thadston to bear him a child.”

Rysus quietly says, “It’s only the next natural step it seems.”

[__Some burly Wehnimerian guardsmen showed up around this time, but they took no action.]

Speaking to Rysus, Aydan says, “For someone who claims to want nothing but independence, you certainly do dictate the terms of the lives and living that so many must abide by. So as I say, you make yourself to be no different. Except that I feel that makes you more of a hypocrite than anyone to the south.”

Archales says, “Defense of the town you are inside of is always self-serving.”

Rysus quietly says, “When the threat to our freedom is gone…”

Rysus quietly says, “The Brotherhood of Rooks will disappear into the shadows, where we were born.”

Speaking to Rysus, Aydan says, “You’ll just invent another one.”

Speaking to Rysus, Deckits says, “No one more than I want the Imperials to go home.. you’ve only hindered removal, and even strengthened the hold they have on this town. With you leading anything, the town is in worse shape.”

Rysus quietly says, “You will see us in the streets, and homes, and shops, and the only mask we will wear is a content smile of freedom.”

Rysus quietly says, “And when freedom is once more threatened…”

Rysus quietly says, “We will stir once more.”

Rysus quietly says, “The biggest enemy is yourself, and your complacency.”

Rysus quietly says, “The sooner you stand up and fight for the freedom as much as you fight against us…”

Rysus quietly says, “We will be gone.”

Speaking simply to Rysus, Mohrgan says, “A town run by such as would stoop to the levels you have stooped to wouldn’t be worth it.”

Speaking heartily to Rysus, Chamorr says, “You speak of freedom, and yet, you enslaved dem ice giants.”

Some people begin to move within the crowd of townspeople. One man steps forward, pulling out a bird mask and placing it over his head. Then another man. Then a woman, even a young child. Then another woman. Soon, a dozen bird-masked figures stand among the crowd.

Speaking simply to Tykel, Mohrgan asks, “Forget your mask at home, did you?”

Evia says, “Oh, the flocks arise to hail their king.”

You quietly say, “Feel free to strike them down, then. Start with the men, and then the women; that way you can still cut down the children when your arms tire.”

Aydan reasonably says, “Well, if the ultimate plan is to kill them all, it’ll have to lead to those in the crowd being taken down.”

Rysus quietly asks, “Am I allowed to go, Mayor?”

Rysus quietly says, “Listen to your master, hound dog.”

Rysus nods at Khylon.

Rysus quietly says, “Unless Drangell got one of your ears too…”

Rysus smirks.

Rysus kisses Stormyrain tenderly on the forehead.

Rysus waves.

Rysus just went through a double door.

Khylon says, “This meetin’ is ov’r. I’ll work up a list of new…justice proposals. I’ll send to ye, then we’ll send to town council.”
