What We Need To Know Before Rings of Lumnis Begins

When you use QUEST to be transported to the Needle of Pentas, you’ll be confined to this area of the Isle of Ornath. There is some exploration that anyone can take part in, whether you want to participate in the event or not. There are five teleportation disks, Planar, Spiritual, Elemental, Chaos, and Order, that will bring you to Liabo. Each section will have a ring you enter which is where the trials take place. This is where you’ll need a scholar’s card and a brooch (the relic). You are awarded an increment to your brooch upon entering the puzzle area, win, lose, or surrender. The increment is only good for the “ring” you’re entering. For example, entering Planar will increment the Planar benefit by +1. If you want to increment the Elemental benefit, you’ll need to visit the Elemental “ring” to try your knowledge (and maybe luck) there. Solving the puzzles will award field experience. Hopefully they are both entertaining and challenging as well.

The brooch is a pin worn item that has 5 benefits. The benefits can be changed at this event via the TURN verb. Once the event ends, the benefit selected is locked in until next time Rings of Lumnis comes around. No progress is lost on the brooch if you select a different benefit. The brooch also unlocks verbs that do cosmetic changes to your character as well as additional messaging for your relic after completing a number of increments to your brooch.

The brooch can be upgraded quite a bit. It starts out gaining benefits very rapidly, but slows downs as the potency becomes stronger.

Planar, Spiritual, and Order take the total you have and directly add it to the benefit. Elemental is a bit different in that the number translates to a percent bonus where +100 equals 10 (always rounding down). Chaos will randomly select one of the other benefits with a chance to be up to 10% more of a bonus.

As a further example, after 250 runs, the bonus is 545. So for Planar, it increases your field exp bucket by 545. For Spiritual, you can instantly absorb 545 exp. For Elemental, you have a 54% chance for an improved roll on various Adv. Guild tasks. For Chaos, random between one of the other benefits using Chaos’s increments, then you have 545 + random 1 to 54 for an addition bonus. For Order, you get +545 bounty points for completing an Adv. Guild task.

The brooch MUST be activated to use. Spiritual is instantly used. The others stays active for thirty (30) minutes. The brooch starts off at 1x/day, but with many runs, you can begin to gain additional uses. Gaining extra uses takes the entire’s brooch’s progress into account, not just the specific benefits, as does unlocking verbs. Don’t worry about memorizing the numbers. We have a detailed ANALYZE on the item that will tell you exactly where you are with the benefits.

The brooch is account attuned, but passing the brooch off is completely your responsibility.

I will prognosticate right now that you guys may well be shooting yourselves in the foot here. Looking at the GSWiki says that something like a boss or bandit creature task is worth only around 1k BP at cap, and this (can!) be min/maxed up to more than double that figure.

Sure, only once per day for only a half hour, but if someone can slice their time thin enough to get three turn-ins (start the timer/turn in, 15 minutes/turn in, 15 minutes/turn in as the timer ends) that can get to be quite a bit.
Even before gaining extra uses.

Only when turning it in.

Realistically, the item is balanced around 10 to 55 entries. This factors in all of our microtransaction events to date.

There are no plans for the Professional Guilds at this time.

The item can be worn or held. Adding Premium perks is certainly possible.

You mis-read my question.

I was referring to the AdvGuild badges which have (three?) facets to them, the material and the trim and the <something-or-other else>, which start out shockingly hideous and turn out (after ten ranks of improvement, in each of their three facets) to be doomstone-encrusted platinum-twined deathstone badges (of Doom!), or some similar nonsense.
And while it is–so I’m given to understand–possible to advance solely in one of the facets (10/1/1) to the exclusion of the others, it is generally considered better/easier/cheaper to take a balanced approach (3/3/3 becoming 4/3/3 to 4/4/3 to 4/4/4 to 4/4/5 to 5/4/5 to 5/5/5).

I completely understood that you were proffering no bonuses to Professional Guild tasks at this time.

You don’t need to balance the brooch in any way. You can go straight for the benefit you want. I think I’m understanding what you’re asking a bit better. It’s not Monopoly where you have to balance your houses to get hotels.

Yes. We review the median number of participants when preparing for these events. Finishing a brooch this time around is not something we anticipate, but we also made the item with a lot of growth and future use.

There are three feature-changing abilities unlocked.

TICKLE: Eye characteristic changed to “[color]-haloed”
SPIN: Unique line changed to “a sheen of [color] lends his/her skin a luminous quality.”
PUSH: Hair changing to “an incredibly long [special color]-highlighted Liabo-white hair”

Where [color] it is red, blue, green, black, or white. Where [special color] it is crimson, cerulean, viridian, ebon, or golden.

Thanks Tysong. I deleted my original post, so to provide background I had estimated the 545 instant experience per day bonus in Wyrom’s example would cost approximately $250 in SimuCoins. With my premium discount it’s around $200 instead of $250.

Am I reading the increments right in that the only thing that increments the item is entering the event area? It seems like you get no “points”, other than Field XP, for doing things like entering Trivia answers correctly, or getting past puzzles, etc.

Looks like the same question is being asked in different ways, so let me try to phrase it a bit differently.

There are three pieces to the brooch. The benefits, the verbs, and the increased usage per day.

The benefits only look at the specific “Ring” for their bonus. For example, if you want an increased experience bucket, you work on Planar. If you want extra bounty points, you work on Order. Chaos uses the increments you do in Chaos’ “Ring” but it randomly chooses another benefit with the options of being up to 10% more (it will never be lower than the base). So Chaos might choose Planar, but it looks at Chaos’ progression to determine your bonus.

Extra verbs, which unlock some cosmetic feature changes as well as new messaging, are unlocked on overall brooch progression. So if you have Planar at 55 and Elemental at 55, you have 110 overall. This works the same way with getting more charges per day. So if you have 300 in Spiritual and 200 in Order, you’ll have 3x/day for any benefit you set it to. Keep in mind you can ONLY set the brooch at the event, but you can do it as many times as you want. Once the event is over, the benefit it is set to is what it keeps until next time.

Hopefully that answers everyone. The ANALYZE on the brooch is very detailed as well.

SQK is accurate here. Runs = increments. Bonus only applies to the benefit.

Probably a limitation of the system but figured I ask. Spin doesn’t appear to work with a forehead gem so I assume it doesn’t work with a lot of feature worn stuff?

Question on Planar boost, say you have 500 bonus on Planar, you activate it (30 minutes duration correct?). If you get to Must Rest! during the boost, then it runs out, what happens to that extra 500 xp? Does it put you in Saturated and immediately absorb any excess?

I’m not familiar with the limits of Saturated but gut feel seems like about 30% of your normal field xp bucket can be converted to Saturated. If a normal bucket has say 1000 xp, the extra 200 xp goes where?

You go from having 1500 in your bucket and being at must rest to having 1500 in your bucket and being at saturated. (assuming this works the same way as other things that currently change the size of your bucket e.g. a DIS enhancive running out)

Bucket isn’t really a good metaphor now that saturated is so common.

Ok, question time. I know everyone is focusing mostly on the instant absorb benefit. But my mind is got me focused on the advguild bounty boost (ELEMENTAL) bonus. In Wyrom’s example of a +545 bonus to the ring, that would give a “54% chance for an improved roll on various Adv. Guild tasks.”.

For math sake, let’s just pretend it’s a +1000 bonus. Which equates to a 100% chance for improved roll. If I was to get a 10 uncut diamond gem task, how does that help? Does it reduce down to 1 diamond? Does it do an X/roll of # of gems till it gets better than then original 10 I was default assigned? Also, how does having a better chance at an improved roll help grizzled & heirloom tasks where there is already only a single thing for you to kill/gather? I can understand the other tasks being benefited easily by the chance % (although still foggy on mechanics of how it works/applies the %).
