Waiting on Professional Courtesy Goes On Another Day…

Big Kahuna Wyrom says Ebon Gate’s Professional Courtesy shop “will likely be closed another day, but we’ll see. Given the feedback in this thread, we’re discussing it further.” Are we waiting on Godot yet? Where’s my bowler?

This series of shops will reopen sometime tomorrow evening. These shops were originally intended to be seashell shops with limited merchandise, so upon its reopening, it will follow this for purchases.

So does limited merchandise mean only so many per account? I assume its limited in how many are in stock and will run out after so many purchased. I will be gone most of tomorrow so will have to leave shells with a friend would be nice to know the price the items will be in seashells.

Well isn’t this a big bait-and-switch. Magically when people complain about seashells being worthless and not having things to spend it on, and also saying you don’t need games/dig/DSD to enjoy EG, suddenly one of the biggest shops by far is turned into a seashell only shop.

What a joke…

Is the inventory changing or is the shop just moving to seashell sales?

I don’t think its a bait and switch since its basically been closed since opening. I’m just happy they are managing to re-open it. I really wanted those gloves for my wizard and I have excess seashells anyways as long as its priced decently. Can you only buy things for your own profession? It would be nice if I could pick some stuff up for my alts since the currency switch.

Yes, as you can only access the portal/room for your profession.

It’s a neat shop idea.

well, i hope the seashell cost is roughly equivalent to what the silver cost was. the price of seashells has skyrocketed…

Very disappointed about this shop. Seems folks that acted early got an unfair advantage over everyone else and to have the shop change right in the middle of the festival is frustrating. I have a lot of alts of varying professions, so I was planning to hit the shop with them all… however, now I’m unable to because my seashells were already redeemed on one person. It does feel like a bait and switch to possibly rake in more money for a failing event. Just my two cents, not that it matters… but you won’t see me spending a dime on this entire festival.

I don’t personally feel that’s fair on multiple levels. First, I don’t feel any ‘bait and switch’ vibe. Mayne that’s just my trusting nature.

But second, I don’t see how this is a failing event. The ambients, and the work that went into creating this mini-world are just amazing. The effort, and result, are sincerely appreciated by many, many of us.

Third, it’s not failing because participation is pretty darn good. Could it be higher? Sure. Were mistakes made? Sure. They have the bad habit of wanting us to have the latest and greatest. That means things aren’t going to be perfect. But I, at least, love the fact that they want us to have the latest and greatest ideas they’ve implemented. And I recognize that entails do-overs.

Fourth, if you’ve been here for any length of time, and I assume you have, you know mistakes are made. It’s a dynamic environment. They do their level best to have a quality product and correct mistakes that are made. But it’s not perfect. We all know that. But they do try to make it as perfect as they can. I, and I suspect others, admire that. This isn’t sucking up either…(1) I’m being level and honest and (2) there’s no value in sucking up.

I know Simu gets this huge rap about making money but jezus…is it that hard to believe someone can both make a profit AND have your best interests at heart? This particular world doesn’t survive without both.

I’m personally not disappointed. I recognize I won’t always be able to get everything I’d like, nor get it at the best price someone else got. It’s okay. It’s how the real world works too. This is just better.

In the case of this shop the pricing was up for what a week on the wiki before it opened? Then a few days for people to buy whatever for silvers. It doesn’t make a lot of sense that it should be changed after all that time honestly. I wouldnt say anything in the shop is game breaking. Heck the only enhancive wearable in the warrior section is a belt, that is the same item but less benefit than one of the gift box items we got years ago so no stacking that.

If it is now going be seashells, then can you please change it so that anyone can go into the portal and buy the items, even if use is still limited by profession? All my seashells are redeemed one one character, so if only the “proper” profession can go in and buy the items.. well that’s going to screw over a lot of people. Also, what of items that were bought from the shop before it closed – are those ok, or are they going to be changed in some way?

Which then means I have to find a way to then give the unredeemed shells to my alts.. and as there is no in-game mail.. this means making a free account just for the purpose of having another character to hold them…

I don’t know why shopping passes were being sold at all, with this shop out of the reckoning for them they are a complete rip off. Thats 90% of my intended shopping taken off the shelves after I bought my pass but before I got to use it.

Yeah, I’m just waiting to see the new prices in Seashells. I was going to make some purchases, about half a mill, but now who knows. the prices of seashells has skyrocketed… so if I can’t get the same gear before the change, for roughly the same price as purchasing .5 mill in seashells, it’s really a crap way to do things. If the same gear now costs me 3mill to purchase the shells, that’s a 6x mark-up for no reason other than a really poorly thought out “new system” that is affecting everything else down the line negatively.

Do we have any sense of when the shop will open back up?

The switch from silvers to shells here is a pretty bad RL customer service move IMO, but it is what it is. Unless it turns out the items are like 100 seashells each. Then I applaud the switch wholeheartedly.

I’ll just put it out there, I disagree with the other posters complaining about the switch from silvers to seashells.

I would have had everything sold for seashells.

There currently isn’t a great use for seashells for the “little fish” unless they plan to sell them to the “whale” who makes 4 jackpot pulls.

So Gaming Pass = Games for Silvers = Seashells = Shops pass = Big happy circle.

For those in this thread who have already redeemed seashells and are worried about no longer having them available for purchasing stuff from the shop if it opens, please reach out to me on LNET, discord, either forum, or through my Play.net email. I have several tens of thousands of planned seashell purchases I have yet to make, and have unredeemed shells for it.

I will tell you what I want, you buy it from a shop for shells, and I’ll give you the value in unredeemed. Don’t even need the NPC.

Thanks Wyrom for reconsidering. I understood the Dark Vault problem before as it was obviously impactful to the market and the pricing was noticably off. But these items are hardly that off and overpowered, they seem fairly reasonable if you look at secondary market prices. The fact that EG is not a-la-carte but locking so many stuff behind the need for doing the digging/DSD/games contradicts that.

To the same end, I never attended EG before and this is the first time I done so because the cost is reduced – so I bought a service pass but not a digging pass since that wasn’t of interest to me. I really hope service pass raffle and wins do NOT require seashells as well. What’s the point of separate out to alacarte otherwise.

Just want to add my voice to the chorus of folks interested in the return of this shop and hopeful that prices will be in silvers as originally advertised.

Although I personally have plenty of seashells, it seems a bit sneaky to require a shopping pass to access stores that sell goods using a currency obtained via a games pass. One or two stores, sure, but 1/4 of the stores, including lots of the new items, is a bit much.

It was already mentioned that any store requiring seashells as currency will not require a shopping pass as well. I can verify that is the case.

a limited amount of goods for sale, but no cap on how many of an item a single person can buy…. like the whole inventory, to resell later, at much higher prices.

The reason this shop closed down for so long is they were not approved to be this potent. The shop got made, approvals were assumed, and this is where we are. After some back and forth, this is the best decision we could come up with. It’s an unfortunate situation that had very few ways to solve.

Limited to accounts serves no purposes under the current shopping system at Ebon Gate.

The alternative is it would not open.

Limited to account serves plenty of purpose. The shopping window of one person buying every item vs. that person creating 20 free to play accounts is huge. This is just phoning it in.

People don’t use F2P accounts to do stuff like that. Or if they do, they are already prepared. The people who are capable of buying out 20 items can buy out 20 items at any moment whether it’s 1 per account or not.
