Annwyn has been raided and a few night hounds put down in the GY, which means the next undead needing releasing Landing side of the spine is the elder tree spirit and thats one I want lots of levels on before going after it.

Lumnis contest on Friday. I think I can get on the leaderboard since I’m near the start of the contest, but expect to be knocked off it before the end.

After that, the road heads back to elven lands for crazed monk and darken bagging and if I stay out of Koargard that long, River’s Rest or Zul for most of the 30s.

Gratz! 🙂

You are ahead of me on Procuring Herbs… but not by much. Torasidr has been especially unhelpful in assigning these recently.

I have a small lead on you for both killing dangerous critters and child rescues.

I’ve been in the wrong place for critter and herb bounties for much of the time I’ve been hunting zombies but I’ve been putting preparations for Lumnis contest ahead of racking up those sorts of bounties.

After picking off the monk, tree spirit and darken, the lowest level undead outstanding is now the elder tree spirit, which will require a return to Icemule at some point before level 40. However after a spell in Vaalor the road heads towards Zul and Rivers Rest.

>That’s some serious spell investment. 2.7x

Clerical CS for 319 is my best protection against cheap deaths and accidentally not spotting something walked in on me until it attacks. Thats a really massive driver for a hardcore build and the reason I went with a warding only build rather than one with an AS attack.

2.7x isn’t that high for a pure warder. I reckon on 2.5-2.75x as the normal range for the build. I’d normally have less AS/MIU and more lore but otherwise its pretty close to the way I’ve normally trained this style.

>What’s the thought process behind the bit of Survival and First aid?

Herb RT, time in Icemule, cheapest TP cost per point on the foraging roll, but low enough not to get skin tasks. The first aid could probably go now, the rationale isn’t nearly as strong since mastering Voln.

Level 35 checkin

When I got to Zul I realised just how much nicer it is for a dwarf cleric to be doing Adventurer Guild tasks in Zul than anywhere else in the 30s and so I haven’t been out of Zul since I arrived.

You have succeeded at the Kill Creatures task 33 times.
You have succeeded at the Retrieve Heirloom task 35 times.
You have succeeded at the Procure Gems task 170 times.
You have succeeded at the Procure Herbs task 92 times.
You have succeeded at the Kill Dangerous Creature task 29 times.
You have succeeded at the Rescue Child task 44 times and failed 1 time.

The 15 point bonus for a dwarf foraging in Zul type terrain is particularly nice. I actually cleaned out one room with 5 successive attempts (lucky, about 1% chance, but not outrageously so compared to needing 5 open rolls in a row for some difficult herbs in other places)

Theres a 2 rank Harness enhancive in there. I’ve also acquired a 3 point strength stat enhancive to add to the one point wisdom enhancive I had previously. It helps carry those quartz orbs around.

First couple of levels I was burning a lot of scroll and item charges for TD, until I had 120 and 219 the wraiths were capable of landing eblast or estrike on me if I didn’t do that, and thats capable of death crits at very low warding margins. Lots of Melgorehn’s, CoS, and Spell Shield items went to keep me safe till level 32.

The main theme has been the continuing failure of “particularly dangerous” critters to make it to my top kill. A standard bat still rules the roost despite over a dozen “dangerous” kills. Somehow I don’t think that’s going to win me any big game prizes.

The only undead taken down are the Zul ones. Sometime around level 39 I’ll need to hit the road and bag a bunch of level 30s undead from other towns, though Zul itself will remain the best place to be until at least level 42.

Latest from the Krenlum trek of Great Lord Ardkor.

A foray was made at the end of last month to bag lower 30s undead in Illistim (Wraithenmist cleared), Icemule (Abadoned Farm cleared apart from the plantlife) and Landing (pooka and skeletal giant). At the end of this month it will be time to move for another foray, and to seek out a new hunting ground as well as pay visits to many scattered undead locations. River’s Rest, Solhaven and Illistim have to be visited and it might be time to risk the lower plantlife in Icemule

Training at 40. Climbing has been pushed up due to the coming foray. Lore has been broadened to 10 blessings after getting 30 religion thanks to recent relevations on the mechanics of 312 showing no benefit from religion lore until 45 ranks. Next target is 40 religion for the effect on 335. Otherwise pretty much the same as at level 35.

As the Mazikaene clan could attest, it helps to have been there before. There’s very little that Ardkor has had to do that I haven’t done before with several characters of similar builds. This is about to change, he’s passed four of my other clerics in the 30s and is about to pass the sorcerer which was the last alt I took to 40 (and died the deaths to teach me that Hardcore and earthen fury do not mix), and is going to have to take on a hunting ground thats new to me with this style or one that I haven’t been in at all in recent years when he leaves Zul.

I think 70 is on before I have to take any serious risk in a staple hunting ground, but its coming up to the point where I could be taken out by something I haven’t seen kill a character before as well as a disconnect or bad luck/carelessness in bagging all the undeads.

The last undertaker batted, Ardkor hit the Road again out of Zul. Numerous undead fell in the Miasmal Forest, Solhaven, the frozen briar patch and the Landing Graveyard as he made his way to a rendezvous with elven heretics in Ta’Vaalor.

(Next up on the list are the Vaalor Bog, Marsh Keep, the Broken Lands, and the frozen tundra)

A foolish follower of Gosaena denied that Koar is Lord of all beyond the gate as well as before it, and made misguided assertions about not being able to take it with you. As the righteous well know, Koargard exists in all realms, although for mortals the route to it requires passing through the realm of Gosaena, and it is absolutely vital to take it with you in order to be able to pass the bridge to Koargard and live in style on the other side.

(The executers of Ardkor’s will would like to make it known that they have substantial funds available to reward any adventurer that recovers his body for burial by the rites of the Church of Koar. The body should be left for those knowledgeable in the rites and not altered in any way from the state in which it was recovered. An enhanced reward will be given for the recovery of any possessions of Ardkor’s looted by the foul creatures that felled him and also for anything looted or skinned from said monster.)

The Black Moor was extensively cleansed and the most Ancient of Baesrukha’s released, before Ardkor returned to the Landing to honor Koar’s partner in the quarterly contest for the Gift of Lumnis, in which he placed 41st with a score of 20525, gaining 18 experience points for all those who receive a full gift during the next quarter.

One notable feature of the contest was the demand for golden topazes during it. It seems that some saint of Koar must have been visiting the Landing and the populace were looking to decorate themselves in his honor.

Following the contest Ardkor remained in the Landing to continue releasing the denizens of Varunar. One amusing incident occurred while foraging in the Trollfang. A forest troll had the temerity to threaten to carve Ardkor’s skull in two, then dragged him from his sanctuary in an attempt to make good on its threat. However as a Fervent Reproach was being charged for it, it suddenly reconsidered its position and fled.

There are visions of banshees in the future, but there remains some work to be done in Varunar, and a possible visit to those haunts noted above, before embarking for Teras.

Hardcore seems to have died down quite a bit recently but I thought I’d share some recent accomplishments for Khrayla. Last weekend had a few notable milestones for her:

– Dinged level 30!
– Achieved Step 22 in Voln (yes… still plugging away at this).
– Broke 1 million silver in the bank for the first time. Then within a day or so I made it to 1.1 million so maybe my financial future is looking up!
– I finally achieved bonding level 4 with my weapon. I am trained CMAN BOND Rank 5 but guessing it will take until around 31 to achieve the corresponding spiritual bond with my weapon.
– I’ve taken my first trip to the Landing in order to focus on improving my Warrior Tricks. I am specifically interested in improving FEINT which is useful even with my limited WTRICK training.

You have succeeded at the Procure Gems task 296 times. (+34)
You have succeeded at the Procure Herbs task 158 times. (+24)
You have succeeded at the Kill Dangerous Creature task 77 times. (+9)
You have succeeded at the Rescue Child task 78 times and failed 2 times. (+6)

Rescues are relatively low in the last 5 levels, because I did not fancy the trek back from Varunar or vruul and that was what I was hunting in the Landing from 45-47. On Teras (48-49) I escorted them out of banshees and kiramon. I’d quite like to get the second level title on all of them unlocked, but its relatively slow going now because I’m pretty selective about which critter tasks I’ll take and I don’t see anywhere I’d be happy with a significant fraction of critter tasks offered (the Bog would work if I was happy the dangers are similar to Varunar). Gem tasks go even faster than that rate suggests, because there hasn’t been a Lumnis splurge during the past five levels (I’ll be burning boosts to do 20-25 of them in a week’s time). Kiramon aren’t undead, but they do help refill the gem jars.

The Marsh Keep has been raided, I’m not sure if the flesh golem area would make a good place to hunt for a couple of levels or not. I wouldn’t want to hunt the snake chimera area on a regular basis but the golem servant area might work.

The Fethayl Bog is about to be raided, and then there are waerns and dybbuks on the list, which might also be attractive if there’s an eidolon-free zone in Bonespear. (My impression is that there’s a waern only zone, but unlike the Marsh Keep, these are areas I’ve never hunted solo and don’t know the details of exactly what spawns where.

Hunting definitely seems trickier, but Ardkor is now the highest level CS hunter I’ve ever operated, so I no longer have the prior knowledge of the sorts of thing that can kill occasionally in these levels.

Subj: Re: The road to Koargard
A pilgrim of the Church of Koar was travelling on the road from the Fearling Pass to the Fortress City when he came across the ghost of a traveller weeping spectral tears.

“Alas, woe is me, I have been slain by robbers, and they have stolen all my silvers, even those hidden in the secret places. I do not have the toll for the bridge and I cannot cross over the river and am doomed to the grey emptiness for eternity.”

Discerning that the thieves must have made for the Fortress to enjoy their ill-gotten gains, the pilgrim called upon Koar for justice and hurried on in that direction, and swiftly came up with them.

The robbers fled for the Fortress at his approach, but Koar had heard the call and raised the river and when the reached it there was no bridge for them to cross.

The Censure of Koar fell upon them and there was no sanctuary from the Wrath of Koar for them.

By the banks of the Mistydeep the golden light struck them down, and the pilgrim recovered the traveller’s silvers from them, and there was no bridge for them to cross. The grey waters took them and held them.

Koar granted the pilgrim a vision of the travellers corpse, and he hurried thither and returned the stolen silvers. And the ghost passed through the gate and over the bridge and neither body nor ghost remained as witness to the Justice of Koar.

Reader, if you doubt this tale, travel to the Vaalor yourself and see their bridges testifying to the Justice of Koar.
