Great Auction Teaser 29 – Roll Yer Own

GM Finros reveals that one of the items in the auction next weekend will be for an item that the winner designs. With *significant* mechanical aspects. Start planning. Oh, and you ARE saving your silvers, right?? This one is going to cost you.

Subj: Mostly Complete Auction Information
Here is (most of) the long-awaited information on the Q4 Auction.

Dates and Time

We are still working out the details of the dates. December 17th and 18th are still the dates that the auction will occur. But a schedule will be available closer to the auction. There are two possible scenarios where plans may change here. We may run Prime on the 17th and Platinum on the 18th. This will only occur if we can get through the auction in a single day. If we cannot, then both instances will run at the same time on both the 17th and 18th.

Location

We will announce the location of the auction as we get closer to the dates.

Participation

We will have two tents, one for Premium subscribers and one for all paid subscribers. Premium (and Platinum) can go into either tent, but Prime (Basic) can only go into the tent for all paid subscribers. F2P will need to upgrade to a paid subscription to participate.

We will not be holding this specific auction in Shattered, but the items will be made available through another venue.

Character Creation and Premium Subscription

There will be a cut off to character creation and Premium subscription to enter the auction. Character creation will encompass rerolling/starting over. The exact date for both of these will not be supplied, but there is time as of this post to get things straightened out. I’d not wait too long.

Bidding

You will need all the silver and/or notes on your person at the time of BIDing. The bidding mechanics validate the silvers on your character at the time you type BID [amount]. Coin hands, pouches, banks, gambling kits, and any other silver storing item do not get accounted for when checking your silver amounts.

Limitations

Each account will be limited to one win.

Passed Items

Items that do not receive any bids will not be returning for another round of bidding during the Q4 auctions.

Item Details: Pre-Auction

The items we post about are teasers. We will not be giving detailed listings of items before the event.

Item Details: In-Auction

We will give you as much information as we can about the items — our goal is not to trick you. Some items may have properties that have a bit of discovery though, so everything may not be spelled out. An item list will be available in the auction rooms.

Item Details: Post-Auction

You are welcome to post about your auction item soon after you pick up your newfound treasure. You can post questions about your item, if you’re having trouble, but try to discover the properties of an item as best as you can before seeking answers from the creators.

The premium vs regular tent – is there different items that go up for sale or just to split people up a bit more but bid on the same items?

If we can’t make it to the first half of the auction, is it okay to show up late?

Historically, these multi-tent auctions don’t have the same items per tent. They do display the next handful of items that are going to be auctioned so you can position yourself accordingly. If you’re after a particular item, you will likely be swamping between tents often seeing what is in the hopper to come up for auction.

I’ve never seen an auction where you couldn’t come and go as you please. Seeing it now would greatly surprise me.

Wyrom,

Do you have a current ballpark estimate for total number of items?

I am failing to understand the workings of the two tents. There will be two different auctions going on at the same time? Will the premium tent see the same items as the prime tent? Will they alternate?

I’d like to ask for a split Sat/Sun auction if at all possible. I have a family Christmas event on the 17th and I’m sure I’m not alone. It would be nice if something this big and rare were spread across both dates to give more people a chance to participate.

Thanks!

>>The premium vs regular tent – is there different items that go up for sale or just to split people up a bit more but bid on the same items?

The items will be split between the two tents. The nature of this auction has a lot of unique one-of-a-kind items for sale, so each tent will be seeing items that are “one and done.”

>>If we can’t make it to the first half of the auction, is it okay to show up late?

Yes. You can come and go as you please. We’ll have a loose schedule posted closer to the auction dates.

>>Do you have a current ballpark estimate for total number of items?

Yes, but I’m waiting for QC to wrap up before talking about this. Unfortunately, QC has until December 15th, so the numbers won’t really be revealed until auction time.

>>I’d like to ask for a split Sat/Sun auction if at all possible.

Scheduling is going to boil down to auctioneers availability and getting the auction mechanics time down a little better.

Plenty of people can’t make it on the 18th. Plenty of people can’t make it on the 17th. The nice thing about splitting the auction between two days would be that both of those plenties of people could still participate in (part of) the auction.

That’s my point. No matter what you do you’ll come up with problems for someone. Including splitting it across two days where it does nothing if the item(s) you’re interested in aren’t auctioned on the day you can attend. Splitting it doesn’t solve the issue.

On my phone the game is unworkable, since the window doesn’t scroll properly. I can’t see anything beyond the first room and a couple lines of chat unless I reload the game every 15 seconds.

It’s fine on a laptop — not fancy, but I use it sometimes when I’m traveling and don’t want to install anything on the computer I’m using. The game wasn’t really meant to be played on mobile though, so it’s not a big deal for me that the web client doesn’t work for that.

Agreed. Personally I would rather see Prime and Plat each given a day so I don’t have to set aside the whole weekend this close to Christmas. Eitehr way it would be nice to know sooner rather than later.

We are pretty much leaning toward December 17th being Prime’s auction and December 18th being Platinum’s auction. This will mean it will be an all-day affair. We aren’t going to have a specific list of what’s going up when. We’ll post a start time. It will end when it ends. Probably start around 11am or noon ET. Sorry Star Wars fans.

Whereas for me it’s just the opposite…on Saturday I’m only free before 12:30 Eastern and am hoping to at least catch some of the auction. I guess it’s always going to be a bad time for someone.

It’s tough to determine pace, because bids can be drawn out, each item has various information to share, we’re going to need breaks, there might be fires, and so on. We’re over 100 items but below 200 items. An exact count will be made available after the 15th. But it’s a pretty big number to do in 1 day, split between 2 tents. I’d be surprised if we’re done before 7pm ET. If everyone is quick and things are smooth… But yeah right!

Just… please, god… both ‘silence’ the room [except for staff, I know I’ve seen Hosts arrive to answer Assists in an Auction tent, which then obviously went on in whispers], and spell-strip on the way in.

Spell strip, yes. Keep the pets outside. Maybe squash ambients. But for an 8 hour event, I hope there will be some RP misbehavior and comments from the peanut gallery.

Also, on behalf of the west-coasters, I vote for noon ET rather than 11 AM start time ๐Ÿ™‚
