The Election in the Landing is over and the winner is Mayor Cruxophim! He officially took office on Saturday. Voting results:

Cruxophim!!

Congratulations!

There were 190 votes total! Amazing turnout!

Hapenlok took 17 of the votes.
Leafiara took 59 of the votes.
And Cruxophim got 114 of the votes.

Please welcome the newest Mayor! The new term officially begins this weekend, where I will handle some last minute business with both Puptilian and Cruxophim as we transition.

Congratulations again!

In addition, I would like to give a big shout out to Puptilian! You were the first, the mayor pioneer of sorts, and you endured more than a small town’s share of abuse from me and my number of villains, stubborn heroes, politics and tension. You did a great job! I’m so glad the community embraces this “player” mayor concept for the town and we can keep this tradition going.

See you all in a week!

Wow, wow, wow. After this campaign season I could probably write 12,000 very rambling and scattered words about what it was like, but right now it’s 1:18 AM, so I just want to say three things:

First, huge congrats to Crux! I’ve said it on the PC before and will say it here that he might be the best fleshed-out character in the lands–pun totally intended. Completely deserved and the outcome pretty much everyone knew was coming.

Second, I planned to write an IC letter here after the election and I knew what Leafi would write if she won, if she narrowly lost, or if she got blown out, but this is a curveball! It’s definitely not a narrow loss, but 59 votes are also way too impressive to go with the blowout loss character arc. So give me a few days… I’ll figure out an appropriate IC reaction to this. Somehow.

Third… The boulder duels hosted by Japhrimel predicted the elections perfectly! For those who weren’t there that night to see, Leafi beat Hap 2-0 and Crux beat Leafi 1-0. So next year, obviously, we can skip all the campaigning and head straight to the boulder.

😉

>>Congrats Crux, and kudos to Leafiara and Hapenlok for a good campaign.

Thanks, and agreed!! This year was a real fun campaign, all-around… The official debates presented a variety of excellent questions, and I loved the addition of the MHO-hosted meet-and-greets; they added a greater depth of opportunity to get to know the candidates in a more casual but structured setting (and bonus: they were a blast), so kudos to our gracious hosts and the many attendees!

Of course, I want to give a huge thanks to everyone that voted for and/or supported me, both during the campaign and beyond. I know that’s like a big ol’ duhhh, but still… you all continue to be awesome, every last one of yous. ?

I also want to sincerely thank the other two candidates — Leafiara and Hapenlok — for bringing to the table a lot of enthusiasm, thoughtful dialogue, personal flair, and excellent ideas for improvement… and for being all around great players, who were ready and willing to put their nickel down. The campaign wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining without the work and dedication that they put into it, and I recognize that — as is the case with any form of role-playing — having other complex perspectives to challenge and/or consider is the reciprocal essence of what makes these sorts of interactions so rich and compelling to engage in.

Totally second this… as I’ve said before, Puptilian has done an exemplary job in the two consecutive terms that he’s been Mayor of the Landing. He’s put a metric ton of thought (and work) into it, and I’m sure he deserves credit for smoothing out a lot of the kinks (phrasing!) for all future mayors, of which I hope there will be many.

>>First, huge congrats to Crux! I’ve said it on the PC before and will say it here that he might be the best fleshed-out character in the lands–pun totally intended.

Haha, well thank you — pun totally accepted!

My most sincere congratulations on your successful campaign, Mayor Cruxophim. Rest assured that you also have the support of many of your neighbors who are not citizens of Wehnimer’s Landing yet who regularly visit your town and likewise have numerous acquaintances and ties to the region. The steadfast pioneering spirit of the Landing’s extremely diverse and varied denizens has long been its strength and have allowed it to prosper where other independently governed settlements have failed. Hah! Nah, you’re safe! I’m out of town after tonight until late Fri night, so you can enjoy the last few days in office in peace.

But thanks again for a great two years Pup! I know I used and abused you sometimes, but it was awesome to see the player mayor stuff really take off. I’ll be working on kind of a recap over the weekend, and some additional things as we transition to the new mayor.

I will comment however on the campaign season this year. I think it was incredible. I’m absolutely amazed and thankful for the MHO/CHE/player hosted mayoral debates, etc that happened during the weeks before the election. I think those events are far more beneficial and rewarding than GM debates. It really is community within community. So thank you for all who did those events as well.

Outstanding, Cruxophim — congratulations! I can’t wait to see what your reign of terr — ah, that is, your term in office — is going to bring! 😀

In all seriousness, I think you’re going to do an amazing job. You are one of the most generous roleplayers I know, in this game or in any other, and I know you’re going to bring that to your time as mayor. Hah, it’s going to be quite the shift for Kenstrom too, I’m sure, to go from Pup to Crux. 🙂

Speaking of which, Pup, I gave you such (IC) hell over demons in town, among other things, and you always took it in stride. You were a wonderfully good sport as mayor, and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy your life as a private citizen in the Landing now.

Leafi and Hap, you both ran excellent campaigns; it was a delight to have you there for one of the MHO-hosted debates, and you were all excellent even though we ran so late that night. You have every reason to be proud.

She’s got a little different tone about the Landing now, somewhat concerned–yet her wings are twitching in piqued curiosity.

Wonderful job to all the candidates on a great campaign. Love the player involvement too on the MHO/CHE level. I vote for more of those next year!

Congratulations to Crux on the win; it was a fine victory and it will be interesting to see where this all goes now. It looks, from the surface only of course, that things may take a different turn from the previous two years. It should be fun to watch it all pan out.

To the two other candidates, Leafiera and Hapenlok, you both are deserving of congratulations for making the run and having a good time doing it. Though I didn’t attend any of the debates (lately, for me, 8pm eastern time is horridly late) I kept up through these boards, and from what I read everyone had a good time. Political intrigue seems to have become the order of the day in Wehnimer’s Landing and there was plenty in evidence.

Last, but not least, a shout out to the first ever player mayor in the history of Gemstone. Well done Pup. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…there is no way in heaven or hell I could have put up with all the things you had to contend with as mayor. Many thanks to everyone, once again, for the kind (and/or hilarious) words! This campaign has been a tremendous amount of fun… and on a personal note, the various combinations of support, bemusement, and horrified reactions to Crux running (say nothing of actually winning) have all been delightful and/or highly entertaining.

I really must offer a huge thanks once again to the Landing’s Sweetheart, Sareyna, for being my official Campaign Manager; she was likely even more determined than I to win this year, truth be told, and I am so very glad (and relieved) that I did not disappoint, heh. And again, tremendous thanks to everyone who voted for and supported Team Crux, be it by vote (for those who could), promotional efforts, casting massies on our behalf, offering booze, offering entertainment, offering mischief… or whatever. I look forward to having meetings with many of you and your organizations in the coming months, as well as hopefully hearing the collective opinions, suggestions, or scathing critiques of most of the Landing for the next year… oh, and seeing what horrific tragedies and monstrous obstacles this year shall throw at us, of course.

>>KENSTROM: I will comment however on the campaign season this year. I think it was incredible. I’m absolutely amazed and thankful for the MHO/CHE/player hosted mayoral debates, etc that happened during the weeks before the election. I think those events are far more beneficial and rewarding than GM debates. It really is community within community. So thank you for all who did those events as well.

I completely agree, obviously, and it’s always stellar to see the community getting proactively involved like that. On a related note, I went back to check and voting was up quite a lot this year, from the previous year:

Last year’s grand tally: 147 town citizens voted! [versus the 190 this year]
Kylinarr received 23 votes!
Cruxophim received 58 votes!
Puptilian received 66 votes!

…which I’d like to think corroborates the fact that the campaigns are reaching more people, becoming more involved with the community, and growing to become overall better. I really do believe that the MHO-hosted events helped with that, and I submit that we should deffo try to host them every year for the candidates. I would also really like to see a greater number of people apply for Mayorship next year, so if you’re even vaguely considering it as something that might be for you, I’d highly encourage you to just go for it; after all, you miss 100% of the eye-critting ambushes you don’t leap out of hiding for…

And to totally steal a joke from someone else (probably Xorus): I think Puptilian “accidently” left an active black coral amulet[1] hidden in his office… I’m calling scandal!
