Subj: And the Art Show Winners are Revealed!
Cairnfang Manor wishes to thank all of the artists that submitted their wonderful pieces of art to our annual show. The judging as always was a very difficult job, but the results are in:

Best in Show:

a minimalist matte grey landscape

Grey, the epitome of non-statement, covers the entire canvas in a lusterless finish. The careful application of darker toned paint and feathered brushstrokes add shadow and texture, defining depth and distance in the landscape. In isolated contrast to the non-descript background, and central to the minimalist composition, is a tiny whorl of vivid green, the sapling seeming to unfurl through undulations of ash. Closer inspection of the light and shade beneath the seedling reveals a pair of cupped hands.

Hope
Artist: Rohese

2nd Place : A Tie!

an unframed color-saturated canvas

Sharply defined and dominating the foreground, an unadorned glass snifter is positioned slightly left of center. Its liquid contents, a dark amber, are rippled with red and gold highlights along the unsettled surface, as though the round-bellied vessel has just been set down. Saturated shadows of deep blue pool in the lower corners of the canvas. In the crimson-hazed background of the upper right, shades of violet form a blurry, indistinct figure with one attenuated limb stretched toward the glass.

Silent Lubricity
Artist: Jossarian

AND

a whimsically painted piccolo

Carved from cherry-hued cocobolo, the piccolo bears evidence of amateur craftsmanship with several thin scars marring the grain of the wood and the mouthpiece sanded into a lopsided oval. Nevertheless, great care was taken to render a scene in vibrant paints along its length. A peglegged cat wearing an eyepatch and plumed cavalier hat waves a curving cutlass at a similarly clothed barn owl. The object of their contested desire is a half-eaten chocolate chip muffin resting on the ground in between.

Battle Flute
Artist: Capell

Third Place

a weathered oak-framed seascape

The painting depicts a calm stretch of beach being brushed lazily by the tide. The sun touches the sea and sky as it crests the waves, gold-limned clouds rolling out toward the grey horizon. To the left, a distant figure with blonde hair blows a playful kiss from the water’s edge. Opalescent bubbles drift from her shapely silhouette, the last of them raised from the surface of the glass protecting the painting. Some have small openings on top, turning out to be tiny, fish-filled aquariums.

Niima’s Kiss
Artist: Yukito
